No Child Should Go Without a Hero

As the world fought to contain the spread of Coronavirus, people were told to stay safe and stay home. For some however, sadly home wasn’t a safe place for them or their children.

In the wake of the pandemic, AberNecessities saw a 175% increase in applications from families fleeing situations of domestic abuse with nothing more than the clothes on their back.

For the brave survivor parents who have endured domestic abuse and have been a hero for their children, our campaign aims to help raise awareness and funds to  provide families with the means to start afresh.

To support and empower families, AberNecessities is creating ‘Fresh Start’ packs, filled with the essential items a child, young person and parent need to help them start over. Each child’s pack will be filled with new clothes, shoes, pyjamas, a teddy bear, games, activities and of course the replacement of their favourite toy or comforter. The parent will be gifted new clothes, shoes, toiletries and additional extras such as a dressing gown and hairdryer. Finally the family will receive the ‘Home comforts’ package filled with non-perishable foods, snacks, story books, cosy blankets and fluffy towels.

AberNecessities works closely with Grampian Women’s Aid to distribute the care packages to families, providing the support and means required, while they seek refuge and emotional support.
